By the Work in Gibraltar team · Data as of 2 October 2026
On 2 October 2026, only 11 of the 174 live Gibraltar-based vacancies on Work in Gibraltar (6.3%) stated a salary in pounds. Those 11 ranged from £19,500 to £50,000 a year, with a median of £34,000, and 4 of the 11 were public-sector posts.

How advertised pay compares with official earnings
The government's Employment Survey puts average gross annual earnings for full-time employees at £43,276 in October 2025, up 5.9% on a year earlier. Across all employee jobs, including part-time, the average was £39,511.

The £34,000 median of advertised salaries is £9,276 (about 21%) below the official full-time average. Only one advertised salary, the £40,000–£50,000 flooring installer, reached that average at the top of its range.
The two numbers measure different things, so don't read the gap as "Gibraltar pays less than the statistics say":
- The official figure is the actual pay of all full-time employees, including senior staff, overtime and long-serving workers.
- Our figure covers only the vacancies whose advertisers chose to show a salary. That is mostly public-sector scales and entry-to-mid-level private roles.
- The best-paid fields, such as tech, legal and senior finance or gaming roles, published no figures at all, which pulls the advertised median down.
Minimum wage context
In the Budget Address of 7 July 2026, the Government announced that the minimum wage rises from £9.50 to £10 an hour. That is £19,500 a year on a 37.5-hour week, or £20,280 on 39 hours. The Chief Minister described the new rate as 51% of average earnings (£39,511).
Source: HM Government of Gibraltar, "The Chief Minister's Budget Address 2026", paragraphs 1241–1252, https://www.gibraltar.gov.gi/press-releases/the-chief-ministers-budget-address-2026-5362026-12180 (checked 2 October 2026).
On our board, the shop assistant role at £10 an hour pays exactly the new minimum, and the receptionist role at £10.50 pays 50p above it. The shop role is advertised at 22 hours a week. At those hours it comes to about £11,440 a year, not the £19,500 full-time equivalent used in the table.
How we did it
- Source: every live vacancy on Work in Gibraltar, read from the site's public jobs data (the same data that powers /jobs), including each job's full description.
- Date: a single snapshot taken on 2 October 2026 at 07:26 Gibraltar time (CEST). All 203 job records were retrieved successfully.
- Sample: 203 live jobs in total.
- We excluded 29 remote or hybrid roles based outside Gibraltar that pay in US dollars ($90,000 to $6 million a year, mostly tech). They are not Gibraltar pay benchmarks.
- That left 174 Gibraltar-based vacancies, including 4 listed as "Gibraltar - Remote".
- What counts as a salary: a figure in pounds in the salary field or the description. Phrases like "competitive" don't count. We didn't estimate pay from job titles.
- Ranges: for a range or pay scale we used the midpoint. A single figure counts as both ends. An "up to" figure is recorded at its maximum and flagged.
- Annualisation: hourly rates were multiplied by 37.5 hours × 52 weeks (1,950 hours) so they can be compared with annual salaries. This is a full-time convention and overstates pay for part-time roles.
- Sectors: Work in Gibraltar's own job categories.
- Medians: each sector median is the median of its job midpoints, and the overall median covers all 11.
Limits
- The sample is tiny. 11 salaries can't represent pay across Gibraltar. One listing can move a median a long way, and 6 sectors have no data at all.
- Disclosure bias. Public-sector employers publish scales; most private employers don't. Senior, tech, legal and gaming roles, which are likely to be better paid, are missing.
- One day, one board. This is a single snapshot of Work in Gibraltar's listings, not the whole market, with no trend or seasonal view.
- Ranges aren't offers. RGP scales are progression ranges, and new starters usually begin at the bottom. The "up to £34,000" figure is a ceiling on a 6-month contract.
- Full-time conversion. The two hourly roles are shown at full-time equivalents.
- "Other" is mixed. It combines trades, beauty and cleaning roles.
Employers: show your salary
Only 6% of Gibraltar job ads on our board showed a salary. A clear pay range helps your vacancy stand out, tells candidates straight away whether the role fits, and saves both sides time.
