Job Title:Software Engineer, Data Platforms

The Role

This is an AI-native fullstack engineering role building micro 1's human data platforms. You'll own features end-to-end, from backend services and data pipelines to the frontends our experts use every day.

The role sits between traditional fullstack and research engineering. Coding agents are your primary development workflow, and you'll work closely with research engineers, operations, and product to turn requirements into reliable production systems.

What You'll Own

1. Design and ship fullstack features across backend APIs, data pipelines, and React frontends.
2. Own client-facing data delivery and platform infrastructure, including exports, access control, and reliability.
3. Scope work around outcomes, direct coding agents—often in parallel—review changes at the architecture level, and iterate until shipped.
4. Build and maintain services in Python (Fast API) and Type Script.
5. Contribute to data modeling, schema design, and query performance across relational and document databases.
6. Partner with research engineering, operations, and product to translate platform needs into production-ready systems.
7. Improve the frameworks, checks, and evals that make agent-driven development faster without sacrificing quality.
8. Troubleshoot production issues and build resilient, observable systems.

What We're Looking For

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2. 0–5 years of software engineering experience, or strong shipped projects as a recent graduate.
3. Strong fundamentals in Python and Type Script, with experience building CRUD applications using frameworks such as Fast API/Flask and React.
4. Working knowledge of databases such as Postgre SQL, Mongo DB, or SQLite and core data modeling principles.
5. Experience deploying services on a major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
6. Coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex are your default development workflow, and you can clearly explain how you use them.
7. Ability to turn outcomes into plans, direct agents, verify results, and identify architectural issues agents may miss.
8. Understanding of agent loops, MCP, tool/data integrations, permissions, and security.
9. Familiarity with context management, RAG, and evals for testing agent workflows.

Preferred

1. Exposure to RL concepts or environments, including tasks, actions, and rewards.
2. Experience with coding data pipelines or task-authoring platforms.
3. Familiarity with CI/CD, deployment pipelines, and Dev Ops fundamentals.
4. Experience contributing to team projects, open-source software, or startups.

The national pay range for this full-time position is a base salary of $120,000 - $160,000 per year.
