Job Summary

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join a team of five Consultant Psychiatrists within the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA), with the post forming part of the wider multidisciplinary mental health service.

Our established team of Consultant Psychiatrists provide comprehensive mental health care to a population of just over 34,000. This is a wide-ranging role, with opportunities across Children and Young People, Working Age Adult, Older Adult, Substance Misuse and Intellectual Disability services, as well as working across inpatient and community settings in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency contexts. We are in an exciting process of Mental Health Transformation across both inpatient and community services, with a focus on improving the quality, accessibility and coordination of care across the mental health pathway.

We are seeking a committed and proactive Consultant Psychiatrist to contribute to the ongoing development of mental health services. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within supportive multidisciplinary teams, bringing clinical expertise, leadership and a constructive approach to service improvement. We are looking for someone who is flexible, reflective and resilient, able to work effectively in a changing environment, navigate complexity, and identify opportunities to develop innovative, high-quality, patient-centred care.

Consultants play a critical role in the running of mental health services, supported by an established 24/7 psychiatric liaison nursing team providing first-line response to emergencies. The service operates without junior doctors in psychiatry, providing Consultants with the opportunity to work closely with a strong multidisciplinary team while playing a leading role in clinical practice and service development. We have developed advanced nursing roles, including prescribing and future Nurse Consultant positions, providing an exciting opportunity to contribute to an evolving, forward-thinking mental health service. The post includes a 1:4 out-of-hours Consultant on-call rota with prospective cover.

Applicants must hold full registration with the UK General Medical Council, with a licence to practice, and must be on the Specialist Register.

This appointment will be on indefinite terms upon successful completion of a 12-month probationary period. Salary, dependent on experience, ranges from £116,767 to £144,077 per annum. In addition, the post holder will be paid a sum of 12% of the basic salary for undertaking on-call duties and a supplement of 18% of the basic salary in order to provide cross cover of colleagues, for whatever reason, up to a maximum of ten weeks per year.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Dr David Harvey, Clinical Director for Mental Health Services, viafor an informal discussion about the duties and responsibilities of the post.
