Living in Gibraltar
Only Gibraltarian and British citizens are allowed to live and work in Gibraltar without residence and work permits. Nationals from other EU member states are issued residence permits upon providing proof that they will not become a burden to the state. Non-EU citizens will find it more difficult to obtain a residence permit in Gibraltar as they must first produce a work contract, and that can only be issued if the employer can prove that no Gibraltarian or EU citizen is able to do the job.
Health Care in Gibraltar
All Gibraltarians are entitled to free helath care in public wards and clinics at the hospital and primary health care centre. All other British citizens are also entitled to free of charge treatment on the Rock of Gibraltar on presentation of a valid British passport during stays of up to 30 days. Other EU nationals are equally entitled to treatment on presentation of a valid European Health Insurance Card. Dental treatment and prescribed medication are free of charge for Gibraltarian students and pensioners.
